Gear up!

Hey everyone, I’m a bit late on releasing this so I apologize!  However, we are ready to accept articles for Issue 5 of the Astro Mag due for a July release.  The theme of this issue is Apocalypse so the flood gates are open to pretty much any article you can think of!  Just click on the “Submit Content” tab at the top for information on how to submit material.

Do you have a cool article idea but don’t have the time or means to see it through?  Then post it in a comment!  The more ideas the better, right?!

On that note, I am happy to announce that Consadine of Astronomican and Imperial-Literature will be taking the reigns as layout editor and AgnosticGod from Astronomican will be in charge of layout design.  The mag will have a much cleaner and consistent look, which is great news!

A bit off topic now: only 11 days until the Datasheet Competition is coming to a close so get your entries in! You wouldn’t want to miss out would you?

Astro-Hammer version 6.1b

Hey everyone! If any of you remember Astro-Hammer back from issue 2 you will remember a really clunky program with a few bugs. I have managed to re-do everything into a simple C program which is now available for download here!  It comes as a .zip file and make sure you read the included README file.  If there are any problems please post them up here or email me.  I will be including close combat in the next version!

Also, keep working on those datasheets, our donations total is up to $40 so someone will get some shiny new plastic at the end of the month!

May Datasheet Competition

Finally, I can release the details for the Datasheet competition!
To keep it simple, here’s how it breaks down:
Download the .doc or .jpeg (the Word document file will be much easier for you to create the Datasheet, though) available a little further down this post, on the right under “Supplements” or, if you hold your cursor over “Astro Mag Database” you can click the Supplements tab there.  At any rate, they’re all the same file.
Next, you just create your datasheet (limit is three per person)! But Kevin, what does that entail?  Well, my panel of judges will be grading them using this rubric:

Points Effectiveness - is the model/unit overpriced, underpriced or just right?
Rules – Do the rules make the unit overpowered, underpowered, etc?
Fluff – Is the fluff well thought out and interesting (and true to the 40k universe!)?
Originality – Does this look like something we’ve seen before or is it a brand-spanking-new-knock-your-socks-off model/unit?

There will also be bonus points which you DO NOT have to do to qualify, but it may give your entry a little extra boost to the top!

Picture Quality (self explanitory.  Can be artwork, a picture of an unpainted model, a picture of a painted model, whatever)
Apocalyptic (When you think “Apocalypse” will people think of your entry?)

So if you have any questions with regard to that just post up a comment here or email me at theastromag@gmail.com

Now when you are finished with your entry, email it to me at theastromag@gmail.com and just put [datasheet] followed by the name of your sheet (makes organization easier for me) in the subject line.  The deadline for this competition is May 31st so you have a little over one month to complete it.

Prizes:

1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be included in Issue 5 of the Astro Mag due out in July.  On top of that, the top three will receive prizes based on how many donations we get.  We REALLY want to give away a Stormlord or Stompa kit so if you would like this as a prize, just click the Donations tab at the top and throw a dollar or two our way.  Every bit helps (and every cent will be pumped back into prizes for you guys!)  Every little bit helps us get closer to giving you the coolest prizes ever, so any amount goes!

On top of that, EVERY entry will be compiled into a single downloadable .pdf!

Again, if you have any questions just post a comment here or email me at theastromag@gmail.com.

Let the competition begin!

The End is Nigh!

Well, we at the Astro Mag are nearing completion of Issue #4. If all goes as planned, we should be done this week.
Figured I’d give you all a little update on that (and to give us more motivation to get the thing done!)

Also, keep on the lookout for a contest that will be formally announced in the mag with details following in a post on here. We are going to try and give away great prizes for it, but that depends on how much in donations we receive. Hopefully we can get enough to give a shiny new toy away, but I’ll save all the nitty gritty details for later ;)

Fallen

Hey guys. This is the first of many “live supplements” for The Astro Mag. Instead of including them in the mag themselves, I will post them up here for immediate enjoyment!
So “Captain Kellen” over on the Astronomican forums finished a project meant for fun games that brings the Dark Angel’s codex “up to snuff” for 5th edition, making them a bit more fun to play. A lot of people don’t agree with this sort of thing, but I suggest giving it a read as it is very professionally laid out and has some cool stories in there as well! If you guys have any input, feel free to post comments and I’ll forward them over to Kellen.

Enjoy! (click the image to download!)

Artwork for Issue 4

Hello everyone!

Well my top three artists I use for most issues seem to have fallen into a bit of hardship and do not have the time to finish as many pieces as I need for this next issue. To keep it short, it’s a mixture of job loss and heavy coursework that is preventing them from finishing them. As such, I turn to you, people of the interwebs! If you are even a semi-talented artist I would love for you to submit your work! I need quite a bit of guard and renegade artwork; I have the stories and articles they will be included in so if you need inspiration from them feel free to ask!

Now here’s the big one. . .

We don’t have a cover yet. Two of the guys I had lined up for it are two of the three that I mentioned above. So, please, if you have a piece of 40k fan-art that has been collecting dust at the bottom of your closet (shame on you!) then please feel free to send it to me at theastromag@gmail.com! There are a few guidelines for this, however:
1) Needs to be in color
2) Needs to be based on Imperial Guard, Renegades, or have humans in it….somewhere

Issue 4 is shaping up to be our best publication yet, and with your help we can make it even better!

Warseer and TSOALR!

Hey everyone!

Well I have some good news, and two parts to it too!

1) Warseer will be promoting future issues of The Astro Mag on their homepage which, as you could imagine, is an amazing help to increase exposure to the hobby-knowledge that we round up!  I am very happy about this!

2) Steve at Turn Signals on a Land Raider will be doing a few short strips for Issue 4!  This is great news for everyone because, as you may know already, TSOALR will be ending in the near future so this is a way to keep the Emperor’s Pointy Sticks spirit alive!

Well, that’s all I have for now.  For those of you still wishing to submit material, remember the deadline is on the 14th so you better hurry!  Email at theastromag@gmail.com

Brain Malfunction!

We’ve all had those bouts of stupidity where you forget to do necessary things due to over-enthusiasm about something, yes?  Well it seems that in my enthusiastic state after the creation of this blog I forgot to name the editors of Issue 4!!

Apologies all around!

(The following are all members of Astronomican)

Chief-Editor: Arkaedin

Copy Editor: Deathboon

Layout/Artwork Editor: Skrall

Hobby Editor: ThePixelGuru (of Issue 3 fame)

Fiction Editor: Ziggy Tempest (of Issue 3 fame)

Tactics Editor: Consadine

Remember, I’m accepting articles until the 14th of March so just submit them to me at theastromag@gmail.com!  The more articles we have the better it is for everyone!
