Article Ideas

Hey everyone!

Well I’ve been receiving many emails and such about topics for articles.  It seems most people work better with a more narrow list of things they can do, so why not give out some ideas?

  • A collecting guide to Imperial Guard or Renegades.  Where is a good place to start, keeping in mind that a new codex is coming out?  What are some good things to think about with regard to paint schemes and army themes?
  • An Imperial Guard/Renegade converting guide.  How can I make my run-of-the-mill Cadians look original?  Easily done for mild, intermediate and expert conversions!
  • Painting camo.  What is the easiest and most effective way to give your Guard the camo they deserve (or need!)
  • Freehand.  Personally, I love tanks that have freehand on them, a tutorial would certainly be well embraced!
  • Terrain.  Build some cool terrain for your armies to fight on!  How do you go about building a bunker or tank traps for cheap?

Tactics, Battle Reports and short stories are far too difficult to pin down to a few ideas.  However, they are very important inclusions because, let’s face it, they’re incredibly fun to read!

Remember, if you have any questions or ideas you can either post them as a comment here (I read them all!) or email me at theastromag@gmail.com

The Astro Mag Blog!

Hello Warhammer fans!

As you can see, The Astro Mag finally has its own web page! We are very excited about this because now it is much easier to update everyone on our progress and, hopefully, get more 40k-nuts involved in every issue! If you want to submit material (remember, anyone can!) just click on the “Submit Content” tab at the top to find out how.

Well, let me tell you a bit about the purpose of this blog first. I will be updating it as each issue progresses letting you know how far we are along with it, how many articles we still need to fill and so on. If there are any supplements being released with an issue (such as the Kill Team rules in issue 3) we will also release them here. I will also post rumors or links to cool tutorials I stumble across to make this blog a mini “breathing” issue as well.

So what kind of work goes into each issue? First thing (something we’re starting ever since the last issue) is we focus on a theme. Issue 3 was Xenos, Issue 4 will be Imperial Guard/Renegades (mainly because the new codex is coming out!) After choosing the theme, we start rounding up articles. This part is totally up to you guys, the 40k fans. Every issue has many different contributors, and we recognize that not everyone has the same level of skill in painting, converting, tactics etc. so we try and publish all sorts of articles for different skill levels to help as many hobbyists as we can. This is a magazine by hobbyists, for hobbyists and it will stay that way. We aren’t looking for monetary gain – the advertising just helps us offset the cost of our publishing software – we’re just looking to help the collective online warhammer community out by producing quality 40k articles.

Speaking of 40k articles, since Issue 4 is well underway, we are looking for any submissions! As previously mentioned, this issue will be Imperial Guard/Renegade focused so all articles pertaining to those armies are very welcome (can be modeling, painting, artwork, short stories, battle reports, tactics, you name it!) That doesn’t mean, mind you, that other types of articles aren’t allowed! If you have any type of article you’d like to submit, just send it in! If it doesn’t get used in this issue, it certainly will in a future one, so no worries! Something I’d like to see more of, personally, are terrain articles. If anyone has good terrain articles, please submit them! Nearly everyone will benefit from them seeing as nearly everyone in the hobby needs terrain to play with (it makes your battles so much more interesting!)

So, to wrap it up, just remember to keep an eye on this blog as I will update as frequently as possible! Also, for those wishing to submit content, note that the deadline is March 14th so get crackin’!
